Our training program is a little
different than most places. The end result is to have a horse that the
owner can enjoy whether it is in the show ring, on the trails, or face-to-face
with a steer. We listen to what the owner wants but we also are in tune
with the horse, who may have preferences of its' own. If the horse is
happy, the owner will be too.
The term all-around to us means an
all-around horse, not a title (although we have won a lot of those too). There is a basic training schedule which
includes confidence lessons, lots of ground work, and then work under
saddle. It is this third step that begins to bring out the horse's
capabilities. From that point we begin to offer different things to the
horse in order to find out just where the talents lie. Some horses prefer
rail work, others like patterns, some prefer cattle, and many like a little bit
of everything. Learning to deal with situations is the utmost goal in
training.
Because we also have the hay
operation, our fees are different than most other places. If we have to do
field work or deliver a load of hay, we don't feel guilty and the owner doesn't
feel cheated if the horse misses a day of work. We charge $300.00 per
month board. This is paid when the horse comes in. At the end of the
first 30 days, we check how many days the horse was actually worked, multiply
the days by $15.00, to give us the training fee. Add the next month's
board and any other expenses such as the farrier or the vet, and you have the
next month's bill. At the end of the training time, all that is left is
the last month's training. It may be a little confusing in the beginning,
but most people appreciate only being billed for actual training days.
Stallions are $22.00 per day, regardless. We could charge a lot more but
we live by the word "reasonable" in our fees, our program and life in general.
If you want training done fast and hard, or want to spend more than you should,
please call someone else. That way only one of us will feel bad.
We can now
offer sessions with the Show Pro cutting flag and also live cattle. Call
for more information.
We do not believe in pushing young
horses with fragile knees nor do we subscribe to the current AQHA way of
going. We prefer to make honest horses with true gaits and clean minds.
