Last year the fuel prices (in addition to other production increases) really hurt everyone. Currently the gas and diesel prices are bearable but we will not know what the summer will bring. We will have to be careful quoting prices but we can promise to be as fair as humanly possible. Taxes and urban development are forcing many farmers to retire or sell out from the pressure. Many people have been burned on hay because what they bought was not put up right and when they got into their supply, they found mold and/or hay with no nutritional value. Others had their hay sold out from under them, even with deposits. We pride ourselves on the quality of our hay, firmly stand behind it and we will honor our commitments. If you have questions, please call Bob. He can talk about hay all day long. Please keep in mind that: A bale is not a unit of measure; it's a form of packaging. A bale can weigh anywhere from 25 to 125 pounds. Density is also a big factor in buying hay. A smaller, more dense bale is going to feed more horses (or one horse for more feedings) than a large light bale. The word "ton" should not be a scary word to hay buyers. A ton is 2000 pounds. 40 of our 50 pound bales equal a ton. Actually it is much more fair to buy by the ton than by the bale. For example; bales that weigh only 30 pounds and sell for $2.00 per bale is $132 per ton whereas 50 pound bales that sell for $3.00 per bale equal only $120 per ton. We would be glad to give you references. Once horsemen have fed our bales they understand the pricing, packaging and reasoning.
Few producers understand the type of hay that horse owners prefer, and even fewer can offer delivery. There are a lot of horse owners who buy their hay from friends and relatives. That's great if it's high quality hay. We are committed to our customers and guarantee our product. Delivery prices are totally dependent on fuel prices. No order is too small. Storage is available with a 25% deposit. We continue to strive for better quality in both the hay crop and its production. Our equipment and our experience allow us to produce consistent bales of hay averaging 50 to 60 pounds per bale. We use commercial weight sisal twine that is bio-degradable. We have also found that one buyer’s ideal is another buyer’s reject. If you let us know what types of horses you are feeding and how you are feeding them, we can better determine your needs. We have a wide range of hay types although some quantities are limited. There is a fine line to producing a hay bale that is easy to handle, convenient to store and efficiently dense to feed. We are taking on new customers for 2010.
